Multi-Spindle Drilling & Tapping Heads →Compare head arrangements and prepare the host-machine and hole-pattern information for a configuration review.
Adjustment range is a geometry, not a promise of universal coverage
AutoDrill's official adjustable-head catalog identifies different spindle arrangements and model-specific center-distance ranges. Its drilling-solutions page separately describes fixed heads built for defined hole locations. The practical lesson is to request the actual arrangement and limits for a proposed head. These are third-party examples of equipment categories, not evidence that BINSING offers the same mechanisms, ranges or interchangeable parts.
Send hole coordinates from one stated datum system, with diameters, depths and tool information. A minimum and maximum distance between two centers cannot describe every three-hole or four-hole layout. The review also needs space for holders, adjacent tools and the fixture. If a proposal lists only a nominal adjustment range, ask for a marked spindle layout showing how every required tool reaches its own feature.
Build one coverage row for each real variant
Use the following blank decision template with the supplier. Keep unsupported variants visible instead of describing the head as suitable for the whole family. Add a drawing reference or trial record in the evidence column. A part with fewer holes may raise a separate tooling or operating question; do not assume unused positions can be disabled without a reviewed configuration.
Count the work required to regain an accepted setup
A setting change is complete when the agreed first-part checks pass, not when a spindle has been moved. Compare access, setup references, tools required, verification and the treatment of parts produced before acceptance. Ask the supplier to identify the approved adjustment and securing procedure. The buyer's role is to define expected product changes and evidence, not improvise a mechanical adjustment from general web advice.
For a stable part made repeatedly, compare a fixed arrangement against the actual frequency of change rather than hypothetical flexibility. For a changing family, determine how many variants an adjustable proposal demonstrably covers. A smaller set of verified settings may be more useful than a broad range that leaves holder interference or fixture access unresolved. Include the time needed to restore a previous setup when assessing production planning.
Use an exception to clarify the purchase boundary
Imagine a hypothetical three-part family. The supplier confirms that variants A and B fit one adjustable layout, but variant C has a tool-holder clash. The correct coverage statement is A and B confirmed, C unresolved. Quoting the largest center distance in the family does not remove the clash. Ask for a separate proposal for C, a reviewed tooling alternative or a different machining sequence, then compare the whole package.
Apply the same discipline to a fixed proposal: a confirmed pattern for A is not confirmation for B merely because the parts look similar. Review installed drive compatibility and application demand alongside pattern coverage. This article addresses head selection; the related retrofit guide covers the separate host-machine and integration boundary. BINSING's multi-spindle platform provides an inquiry route for a complete application review, without assuming the specific head arrangement in advance.
